NEW YORK — The slogan above the Washington Post’s banner captures the Left’s view of the allegedly authoritarian Donald J. Trump’s presidency: “Democracy dies in darkness.”

It’s now time for a new credo, given the recent actions of President Joe Biden and his party: “Democracy dies in broad daylight.”

The Democrat Party’s handling of the renters’ eviction moratorium reveals their utter contempt for the separation of powers, the rule of law, private property rights, and the U.S. Constitution itself. And they are not shy about this at all.

The U.S. Supreme Court struck down the Biden Administration’s extension of an expired moratorium that prevented landlords from booting tenants who could not pay their rent, due to COVID-19-related economic woes. While the original legislation applied only to federally subsidized residences, Team Biden unilaterally and lawlessly included all rental properties.

SCOTUS ruled on June 29 that the Biden Administration “exceeded its existing statutory authority by issuing a nationwide eviction moratorium.” Writing for the 5-4 majority, Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s opinion added, “In my view, clear and specific congressional authorization (via new legislation) would be necessary for the CDC to extend the moratorium past July 31.”

The Court, in essence, gave Congress a month to pass a new law that, as much as it likely aggravated landlords, at least would have codified these protections for renters after open debate and public votes by elected representatives — as traditionally occurs in this constitutional republic.

While the U.S. Senate voted on 20 days in July, the U.S. House convened just 10 days last month and relaxed for 21. While Nancy Pelosi and her comrades savored hot dogs, sunshine, and sandy beaches, they also blew off their opportunity to write this lapsed moratorium into law.

“Congress has had plenty of time to consider the matter,” U.C. Berkeley law professor John Yoo and Claremont Institute scholar Robert J. Delahunty observed Wednesday at National Review. “It simply has chosen not to use its authority.

So, having failed to rally Congress from sloth into action, Biden could have issued an executive order from the White House (troublesome) or a regulation via the Department of Housing and Urban Development (legally baseless, but at least from a germane authority). Instead, Biden did something completely different: He ordered the CDC to drop-kick SCOTUS in the scrotum and concoct a new moratorium, all by itself.

The CDC, in essence, turned itself into the Centers for Disease and Rent Control.

Huh?

The folks in charge of federal epidemiology now conduct housing policy? Will HUD now approve vaccines? Maybe the IRS can send astronauts to the International Space Station, and tax audits could be performed by the National Park Service.

I went ahead and did it,” Biden said of the CDC’s brand-new eviction ban. “I can’t guarantee you the Court won’t rule if we don’t have that authority, but at least we’ll have the ability, if we have to appeal, to keep this going for a month at least. I hope longer than that.”

Bidenese-to-English translation: Let’s defy the Supreme Court and molest the Constitution for as long as we can get away with it.

Also, bafflingly, Congress previously approved $46 billion in emergency rent relief. So far, only $3.3 billion have been paid out.

Why doesn’t Team Biden distribute the other 93.5 percent of the money already allocated for this purpose — for better or worse – before manhandling America’s political institutions and practices?

This executive fiat is being perpetrated by the same people who moaned that President Trump attacked American norms, assaulted the Constitution, and acted “worse than Hitler,” as Refuse Fascism organizer Sunsara Taylor bizarrely told Tucker Carlson on February 21, 2017 — just one month into Trump’s term.

In fact, Biden & Co. managed rent relief with insufficient competence or urgency. And then, after the Pelosi-Schumer Congress snored, they stomped on the Constitution with hiking boots.

This is reason No. 583 why friends should not let friends vote Democrat.

I Honestly Hope Every Single Landlord Who Voted for Biden Loses Everything! The Landlords Who didn’t Vote for Biden I Truly Feel For and Hope They can Make it, because They are Getting Royally Screwed!

Some of these Renters that are not paying are subletting to others and collecting money and not paying the landlords. The landlords that have been forced to sell are getting new landlords who raise the Rent. This will lead to more inflation etc. I t would be nice if this onlty affected landlords who voted for Biden.

Isn’;t what Biden is decreeing a violation of what the Constitution says about the Rights of Property owners? Landlords often have mortgages and taxes that must be paid and Joe is letting the beneficiaries of the actual property owners off the hook as to their own responsibilities. as renters. I think Scotus should grow a pair and protect property owners .We all know that even the rental assistance was never paid to the Landlord and that most will move as soon as the moratorium is lifted and the Landlord will never be paid..

#1, We are not a “Democracy”! The United States is a Constitutional Republic. If we were a Democracy, we would be doing little else but going to the poling paces to vote on every lame brain idea that just about anyone in the country had. So I say, STOP calling this Country a Democracy, because it isn’t. Words mean something!!

All of them you see waiting a turn at the rail on the G.W. bridge, Eliot…. In red states we simply remove the electric meter and turn off and lock the water meter.

In Blue States –it is illegal to tamper with any of the utilities in any property occupied by a renter. even so –the Law says in most states that if a deadbeat tenant does not pay a utility bill- that is billed in the tenant’s name,-the owner is responsible and the utility can then shut off, whatever the utility is as long as the tenant is not inconvenienced.

Biden just relieved American citizen land and property owners of their Constitutional Rights to private property and put the deadbeat tenants in charge..

I guess the Democrats think that if they keep ignoring the constitution it will go away. They may be right. If no one protests then yes, maybe it will.

These landlords should move ahead with their evictions. This moratorium is illegal and they aren’t bound to abide with it. Let it go to court. The law is clear. But then everything that Biden does is illegal since his “election” was illegal.

When I was retiring, a coworker was also getting ready to leave the workforce. He was putting a lot of money into rental property to provide him with a steady income. I opted for utility stocks. I wonder how his rental property is turning out for him.

Gotta love a tyrant Dictator…

We have gone from being told who is essential and who isn’t, to telling us to mask up, and lie down.. now we’re told we have to have a vaccine that can’t keep up with a virus mutating, or forfeit our livelihood… I’m hearing about plans that we can’t travel without a passport.. still bossing private property owners around, telling farmers what they can grow and where and even how… prop12.. what we can eat, what we can wear.. just really sad!

The best thing for all of the southern states to do is say the Illegal immigrants can’t pay rent so we’ll have to ship them to Washington DC until Biden can somehow figure out a way for them to pay rent!!! That will shut the border down immediately!!!

I agree with your sentiment but I think you already know what will really happen. The politicians won’t care. They will continue to defund the police, as long as they can keep funding their private security. If it gets too expensive, they will simply legislate themselves a pay raise. Come to think of it, all you have to do is look at California to understand what will really happen.

As far as getting the eviction moratorium stopped all property owners renting need to band together and Sue Biden in the Supreme court for violating their constitutional rights and have people sign a petition for the impeachment of Biden For violations of the Constitution!

Biden is a thief. By preventing land lords from evicting deadbeats he’s robbing them of their income and propery.

Precisely! I have spoken with many liberals and (unsurprisingly) none of them have ever owned or managed businesses, owned or managed rental property, or otherwise been anything other than on the consumer’s end of business relationships. They seem to think that if they don’t pay their rent/bills, the landlords/service providers will be unharmed. They don’t stop to think that if they do not pay their bills then the landlords/service providers do not have the money they rightly expect and require to pay their bills. So, the consumers put the providers in a financial bind because of their unwillingness (or sometimes true inability) to pay as agreed. This is why so many folks have had their financial lives ruined to the point of losing their homes, all their savings, and so much more by this foolish “eviction moratorium” that the liberals have inflicted on the landlords during all this Wuhan Dempanic. It is the landlords who are out on the street because the renters don’t pay their rent rather than the renters themselves. This is completely wrong and immoral and should be all sorts of illegal!

The Penis in Chief Joe Biden and his butt kissing Democrap Congress liberal representatives, e.g. crazy Pelosi & crying Schumer, have never held real jobs in their lives!

Paying no rent is Marxism for deadbeats to evade responsibility at someone else’s expense, landlords!

It will only get worse. The Democrats want to destroy Capitalism and the landlords are seen as Capitalists. Biden abolished the Keysone pipeline and prevented drilling on Federal lands. Oil is used to make Plastics, Rubber and Paint among other things. This is why inflaion is up. Trucks need tires etc, This is why Gas is getting more expensive , Can’t repeal the Law of Supply and Demand. Biden reduced Oil drilling here in the U.S. by14% and now wants Opec to fill the Gap. . Just bend over and grab your knees as things and prices will only get worse.

Obama and his henchmen are the wizard of Oz-men behind the curtain, pulling Joe-blo’s strings and painting his Q-cards. Joe would be judged near brain-dead were it not for the dopamine and seratonin that is being pumped in him daily. His body can’t take such a biochemical onslaught for long. Look for his “stepping down”..if his handlers allow such ( olr:sever breakdown? stress related brain fracture? Out-of body transmutation? whatever) before year’s end
Fear not….Ka-ma-LA (la,la,la) is waiting in the wing;s the FAR,FAR,FAR LEFT WING!……………

Just burn down your building and collect the insurance or clear the building out like the 78 year old homeowner in Vegas who just shot everyone last week. Then take a visit to your local Democratic offices on your way out of this life and make a statement.

Deadbeat tenants have to leave sometime – to go buy cigarettes, get a new tattoo, maybe refill their weed container.

When they leave, go in, board up the windows and doors. Leave ONE DOOR in and out. Put an armed person at that door until all the personal belongings are on the curb, then LOCK IT UP TIGHT!!!

Now, if it’s a family and the parent(s) have been in touch with the landlord regularly and have explained what their situation is (breadwinner died of COVID and the other parent is trying to find work and a babysitter) then of course, try to work with those folks.

I realize renting isn’t a charity business, but we must show compassion on those whom are actually trying vs those taking advantage of the situation.

But wait a minute.
The CDC is NOT A GOVERNMENT AGENCY!!!!
It is a privately owned drug company.
Since they hold the patent on many drugs and vaccines.
What part of the government law making process are they again????
Meanwhile dumbass liberals applaud the over taking of the US, by unknown entities.

We have seen the enemy..and they are amongst us as roaches feasting in the D.C.garbage dump….

What will the democrats do when landlords can’t make their mortgage payments and properties are lost to the banks? What will they do when these landlords cannot pay their property taxes? This is just another plot by the democrats to destroy the U.S.

Democrats are destroying the US in many ways. From Democrat debacles on the border, Afghanistan, economy, and Constitution abuse, Confidence in the USA is rapidly declining at home and in the world at large. The US press needs to start being honest, not being just an echo chamber for leftist/Democrat propaganda. And the US needs to secure and stabilize its elections. And yet it may already be too late. 245 years is not bad, but it hurts to see the end.
