In a match worthy of the old World Wrestling Federation, Windy City Mayor Lori Lightfoot pinned herself to the mat while engaging in self-contradiction over softer language in civic affairs.
“Toxicity in our public discourse is a thing that I think we should all be concerned about,” Lightfoot said last week. “We’ve got to find a common sense and a purpose,” she added, urging Chicagoans to “focus on what brings us together and not what tears us apart.”
But this Lightfoot soon got stomped on by the meaner, rougher Lightfoot as observers recalled the latter’s total lack of civil discourse.
“F**k Clarence Thomas,” heavyweight Lightfoot had screamed at a Pride rally in Grant Park on June 25, the day after the Supreme Court reversed the 1973 pro-abortion Roe v. Wade decision. Two days later, she posted a photo via Twitter of her pointing to someone wearing a “F**k Clarence Thomas” shirt. Lightfoot commented above the picture: “I said what I said.”
